Few of us have any conception of the enormous timescales in our planet’s long history, and this narrow perspective underlies many of the environmental problems we are creating for ourselves. The passage of nine days, which is how long a drop of water typically stays in Earth’s atmosphere, is something we can easily grasp. But spans of hundreds of years—the time a molecule of carbon dioxide resides in the atmosphere—approach the limits of our comprehension. Our everyday lives are shaped by processes that vastly predate us, and our habits will in turn have consequences that will outlast us by generations.

At this Science on Tap, Marcia Bjornerud, PhD, will talk about her new book Timefulness and will present a new way of thinking about our place in time that will enable us to make decisions on multigenerational timescales.

Lady Rizo returns from her smash Australian tour back home with a new raucous night of songs written by women. From Grace Slick to Sia, from Peggy Lee to Biork-- in an industry dominated by men we celebrate the tunes penned by chicks.

“A formidable belter who can sustain phrases and notes even when sprawled on her back on a piano and scissoring her legs.” - The New York Times
"Oh say can she sing..." -The Age

"But it’s really all about the songs and that incredible voice. It deserves a full house every night. If this is what a true American apology looks like, all is forgiven..." - Herald Sun
